Nail art with nail art tape.

So I saw some people use tape to get super straight lines, but I wanted to see what else I could do with it. Here is what I did ...

And here is how I did it...

First (well after a base coat) I applied a mix of base coat blotches. I thought bright colours would be best to make the colour stand out beneath the dark top colour.

You could choose one colour or organise the colours more if you wanted something specific.

Make sure it is dry then apply a top coat.

Once the top coat has dried apply the tape, ensuring you leave enough over the edges so you can peel it off later.

It is important to make sure there are no bubble in the tape where the dark colour can seep into.

Set them up how you like, checks, lines, letters whatever works!

Then add the top coat, I chose a dark colour for the contrast and to cover up the colour that I didn't want to show through.

Let this dry and then peel off the tape and apply a clear top coat for protection.

And then marvel at your awesome nails :D

As you could see I used a white tape, you can also get coloured tape and use that for the nail art like this...

I just got mine from Ebay, but I'm sure other places sell it.
If I were to do this again I would put 2 bits of tape next to each other to make the stripes thicker, or find thicker tape.

I hope you like this and try it for yourselves.

Happy Diamond Jubilee Your Majesty!

To commemorate the diamond jubilee I have done a selection of nail designs.
You could do a hand with just one of the designs or do them all like me :D
Here they are...

With a white base there are loads of options available. I used nail art pens to do these, otherwise I am way too wobbly to do this much detail.
Why not try some for yourself, or do one better than me.
Please share if you do some jubilee nails!

Just saw these advertised online. Why, oh why are they always in America. I want me some! What do you think of them? Let me know...

http://vimeo.com/40940949 Here is a video to show you how it works and some ideas of how to use them.

Can Spiderman come out to play?

SOoo I have done a superhero inspired nail design.
Spiderman, a poor boy bitten by a spider OR an excuse to do your nails red AND blue :)

So the usual routine with base coat and then the base colour, in this case red and blue. Any make will do I just chose two that were closest to the colours used in the film.

To do the main Spiderman symbol I found a picture and just did it free hand on an envolope first and then onto my nail. I then filled in the web in the back. To be honest, I wouldn't put these in next time but we live and learn :)

For the other nails I chose to alternate red and blue with webs on them. You could add a little spider on the web if you like but I thought it might be a bit too much.

So I hope you like and why not give it a go

Cloud inspired nail designs.

Cloud inspired nail designs!

So I have done my first set of nail designs for the blog. I hope you like them, and here is a little step by step. Let me know what you think, and if you try it or have any additional ideas, please share. JJ.

First step; base coat. I have used Maybelline Salon Manicure, which I love. It strengthens your nails which is always a plus.

Step 2; the base colour. I have used BarryMCosmetics Blue Moon but any pale or pastel blue will work well.

Step 3; the white bit. For this step I used Natural collection white nail polish just to sweep the main section of white.

Step 4; Making the white bit fluffy. Using either a nail art brush or being careful with your normal white polish brush, add some curves to make the cloud fluffy.

Step 5; birds. I used Rio professional nail art to do the traditional 'm' shape bird.

Step 6; Just a bit of texture. I have put a tiny bit of silver in the cloud to give it some shape.

Well I hope you like this and here is what I did with the other nails...

A familiar sight in England.

A lost baloon.

Sandcastle.

Flying a kite.

I really hope you liked these. Let me know what you think :)

Welcome to OooNails. I'm new to blogging, but I hope to share my designs, hints and tips to fello nail polish adicts.
So I saw this tag and because I am all about the nails I thought I would have this as my first post. Enjoy, comment and as always paint your nails. JJ

1. What is your favourite nail polish company?
Ooo good first question... I'm going to have to go with BarryM I have all their colours and they are so vibrant and long wearing!
2. Glitter or no glitter?
I love a little bit of glitter, normally within nail art. All over is a bit of a pain to get off. I prefer a solid colour.
3. OPI, China Glaze or Essie?
This is a tricky one, I love them all really. OPI have gorgeous colours and sets too but at £11 per bottle they make my purse ache. Essie have a lovely finish but I am not as keen on their colour range, sorry :s China Glaze have the cutest specials and I adore their colours too and much more affordable so I'm going to go with China Glaze.
4. When do you change your nail polish?
As often as possible, unless I am doing a last test, which isn't often, because I can't cope with having my nails the same colour for too long.
5. What’s your favourite colour on your nails?
These are getting harder, I think on my nails a nice bright teal colour. It just goes nicely with my skin tone. I am up for trying any colour and I will wear them despite what they look like on my nails if I like the colour. Rebel.
6. Darks or brights?
BRIGHTS! These go better with me, I'm a cheery gal.
7. What are you wearing on your nails right at this moment?
Currently doing a last test on 17 Cosmetics' Lasting Fix, Juicy. Day 3 at the moment and so desperate for a change.
8. Matte nails, in or out?
Hmmm. I'm going with...out FOR NOW. Bright shiny colours are in for this Summer. Bold and colourful! I think that matte colours can look lovely, especially at a business meeting but I never really wear them myself.
9. French Manicure?
I've had one done, and sometimes do them myself too. They look lovely, and make your nails look so healthy.
10. Favourite Summer colours?
Brights and pastels are great. Alternating between the two is the way for me. Sometimes a softer colour can look just as good as a bright one.
